Cisco gets his name from the Cisco Kid, a fictional Western character created by O. Henry in 1907. The Cisco Kid was later depicted as a heroic Mexican caballero (the Spanish word for “knight” or “gentleman”) in numerous film, radio, television and comic-book series. Cisco is quite the ladies’ man. He has shown such determination to spend time with the mares that he now gets turned out on the mare side of the pasture. His affection for the mares may be due to the fact that he was gelded relatively late in life. He is also very friendly with humans. His owners call him a “husband horse,” meaning he is safe and plods along and is sane.
